MISTAKES TO AVOID

. . . WHEN SELECTING A PROFESSIONAL FOR YOUR JOB

Construction workers on work site
  • Hiring a kitchen/bath/other designer for a project that involves overlapping trades like plumbing, electrical & mechanical work. Architects understand the big picture. We can bring your attention to the possible ramifications of a project as well as harness some potentially lost opportunities. Be sure to verify a "designer's" credentials.

  • Hiring a full service architecture or interior design firm for a small project. They may charge a premium to make small jobs worth their while.

  • Hiring a Design-Build firm for the simplicity of  "one stop shopping".  It seems simpler but information is less transparent & projects can cost 25% more. An architect working independently from a contractor looks out for your best interests and provides necessary checks & balances.

  • Hiring a contractor to execute your project vision without a qualified person managing the design--or the changes that can occur to it once construction begins. Design & Construction are two very different specialties. Even "simple" projects have multiple design implications, which is the expertise of an architect.
